We partnered with The Grange P–12 College to host 20 First Nations students at the Truganina depot for a meaningful NAIDOC celebration centred around the theme: “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.”
The event began with a deeply moving Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, led by Senior Uncle Mark Brown. Then came the heartbeat of the celebration: a powerful performance by Ganga Giri, a master didgeridoo artist and proud Palawa man. Known for his signature fusion of traditional sounds with contemporary beats, Ganga Giri’s music conveyed strong messages of cultural pride, community, and care for Country, resonating deeply with students and staff alike.
A specially catered Indigenous fusion menu was provided by Pawa Catering, a local business founded by Aboriginal woman Niyoka Bundle and chef Vincent Manning. “Pawa” means to cook in the Gunditjmara language. Their food brought cultural storytelling and tradition to life through flavour and thoughtful preparation.
Students also took part in a behind-the-scenes tour of the depot, including the workshop and operations areas. The visit sparked curiosity and engagement, with many students asking thoughtful and intriguing questions about the transport industry, vehicles, and career pathways.

Ange Carney, a teacher from The Grange P–12 College, reflected on the significance of the day:
“The students really enjoyed the day, and we appreciate CDC Victoria putting the time and effort into organising a celebration of the students culture. Events like these help the children to feel seen. Also, to see the inside workings of the bus depot was something different for them and sparked some curiosity for different pathways.”
One student shared:
“It was a fun morning and a good opportunity to celebrate my culture for NAIDOC week. Thanks to CDC Victoria for the opportunity to come out and celebrate our culture with you.”
This NAIDOC event reflected CDC Victoria’s commitment to reconciliation, inclusion, and fostering cultural awareness across its people and communities.
