International Women’s Day is recognised on the 8th of March each year. The theme for 2022 is #BreakTheBias. It asks us to imagine a gender-equal world that is free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.
One of life’s most basic values should be to treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. For me, this means equality in gender, diversity, cultures, and providing an environment that is inclusive and presents opportunities for everyone on an equitable basis.
Sadly, there has been a long term inherent cultural bias regarding gender. The good part is this narrative is changing now. More awareness, education, and open dialogues are helping all of us evolve. But there’s still a long way to go.
If I talk about our bus industry, we need to break down every barrier that may be preventing more female participation in this industry. We have got many wonderful women working in crucial roles, including drivers, mechanics, administration, operations, and management.
I am extremely grateful and thankful to all the women of CDC for their contribution to this industry. Your proven capability and strength shown to forge careers and open new pathways for all women to participate in the bus industry is a great achievement and we need to celebrate your success.
I do believe, women can do anything at CDC and I am committed to ensuring we provide the environment and opportunities to do so.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #BreakTheBias and this is so important to live by to ensure our company can grow and provide equality within our community.
I encourage all our staff to celebrate Women’s Day and the launch of our Driven Women initiative, which is a great pathway to encourage more women to join the bus industry.
A Happy Women’s Day!
Best wishes,
Jeff Wilson, CEO, CDC Victoria
